How Marine Boat Insurance Works | Content for Reprint

If you are familiar with motor insurance policies then most of the ideas behind that hold over to the marine watercraft insurance world. But there are numerous important distinctions and this article is here to help you understand the vital ins and outs of marine boat insurance. Reading this before confirming your insurance contract can save you thousands of dollars in premiums or provide you much better payments in the event of a claim.

A fundamental point about boat insurance is that just about all marine policies are formulated as "All Risks" plans. However, the thinking is not over yet as "All Risks" only stands for all risks ? aside from the detailed exclusions and for stipulated boat usage and inside of a given region or water type. So some extra work is required to guarantee that risks to which you could be exposed are either acceptable to you or are not on the company's yacht insurance exclusions list.

Very occasionally a boat policy quote may be provided for "named perils" and will protect the most frequent hazards such as fire, theft and weather effects. Policies like these are able to charge substantially reduced premiums ? but that is due to the fact that you, as the watercraft owner, are left substantially more vulnerable than with a standard policy. An example of this could be a claim arising from vandalism where no theft or fire has happened. Any such policy requires very careful examination before it is embraced.

Exclusions are a vital aspect for you to consider your boat's policy proposal for long lasting confidence, and also one of the main differentiators between policies and insurance providers. With an 'All Risks' watercraft insurance policy everything is protected apart from those items and causes listed, so some thorough reviewing is required. Each and every firm seems to employ a unique lineup of exceptions, so in this article are several common ones for you to take into account.

Losses brought on by or arising from wear and tear, routine deterioration, attacks by marine life and insects as well as mold and mildew and weathering are commonly excluded from your watercraft's insurance cover. Having said that, on new craft (up to four or five years old) you may have the chance to negotiate 'new for old' on particular objects. Other hull areas frequently omitted are blistering and osmosis in fiberglass, deficiencies in initial design or fabrication and corrosion.

Your motor and power train is an very expensive part of your motor boat and it is not unheard of to find exclusions in this area of boat or yacht insurance. Failure of individual components is not an uncommon exclusion, however consequential damage ought to be included. So, as an example, if your oil pump breaks down it would not be covered, but the repair works to the other parts of the engine should be.

But your boat almost definitely does not live its entire existence on the water. Here's yet another area where organizations differ in their approach to marine insurance exclusions. Think about lifting the boat from the water. Who insures your sail boat whist it sits in the sling and being brought up by a crane? Don't presume or suppose, slides here are not unfamiliar and, if they occur, are generally catastrophic with respect to the boat.

Then there's the on-land storage. Though the boat is safely and securely propped over the winter on the hard standing , who deals with damages to your fixtures and furnishing caused by over wintering creatures who identify a warm spot on board shielded from the elements? Check your marine insurance does!

And then finally there's over land transportation. Exclusion riders here on your boat insurance should have very thorough checking to make certain this hazardous aspect of your boating life is appropriately addressed. It doesn't matter if it a jetski hauled at the rear of your automobile or a large luxury yacht on a low loader, make sure you obtain the correct boat insurance cover in place.

To your boating enjoyment!

(AP) ? Having publicly pledged a "solemn duty and moral imperative" to protect Israel, Mitt Romney told Jewish donors Monday that their culture is part of what has allowed them to be more economically successful than the nearby Palestinians.

"As you come here and you see the GDP per capita, for instance, in Israel which is about $21,000 dollars, and compare that with the GDP per capita just across the areas managed by the Palestinian Authority, which is more like $10,000 per capita, you notice such a dramatically stark difference in economic vitality," the Republican presidential candidate told about 40 wealthy donors who breakfasted around a U-shaped table at the luxurious King David Hotel.

The economic disparity between the Israelis and the Palestinians is actually much greater. Israel had a per capita gross domestic product of about $31,000 in 2011, while the West Bank and Gaza had a per capita GDP of just over $1,500, according to the World Bank.

Romney, seated next to billionaire casino owner Sheldon Adelson at the head of the table, said he had read books and relied on his own business experience to understand why the difference is so great.

"And as I come here and I look out over this city and consider the accomplishments of the people of this nation, I recognize the power of at least culture and a few other things," Romney said, citing an innovative business climate, the Jewish history of thriving in difficult circumstances and the "hand of providence."

The reaction of Palestinian leaders was quick and strong.

"What is this man doing here? Yesterday, he destroyed negotiations by saying Jerusalem is the capital of Israel, and today he is saying Israeli culture is more advanced than Palestinian culture. Isn't this racism? Israelis and Palestinians have a conflict, but they are people, they are equal, it is not a better culture or advanced culture," said Saeb Erekat, a top Palestinian official.

"It's Israeli occupiers and Palestinians under occupation, and that's why Palestinians cannot realize their potential," he said.

The breakfast with top donors ? including Adelson, New York Jets owner Woody Johnson and hedge fund manager Paul Singer ? concluded Romney's visit to Israel, the second leg of a three-nation overseas tour designed to bolster the his foreign policy credentials.

Standing on Israeli soil for the first time as the GOP's presumptive presidential nominee, Romney on Sunday declared Jerusalem to be the capital of the Jewish state and said the United States has promised never to "look away from our passion and commitment to Israel."

The status of Jerusalem is a critical issue in peace talks between the Israelis and the Palestinians.

During his visit to Israel, Romney did not meet with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas or visit the West Bank. He held a brief meeting with Palestinian Prime Minister Salam Fayyad.

Romney's campaign says his trip abroad, which began in England last week, is aimed at improving the former Massachusetts governor's foreign policy experience through a series of meetings with foreign leaders. The candidate has largely avoided direct criticism of U.S. President Barack Obama while on foreign soil.

The Jerusalem fundraiser, however, was a political event that raised more than $1 million for Romney's campaign. It marks at least the second finance event during his tour. The first, in London, attracted about 250 people to a $2,500 per person fundraiser.

Both presidential candidates have aggressively courted American donors living abroad, a practice that is legal and has been used for decades.

Several donors were among those gathered in Jerusalem for Romney's speech on Sunday.

Romney's declaration that Jerusalem is Israel's capital was keeping with claims made by Israeli governments for decades, even though the United States, like other nations, maintains its embassy in Tel Aviv.

His remarks on the subject during his speech drew a standing ovation from his audience, which included Adelson, the American businessman who has promised to donate more than $100 million to help defeat Obama.

Adelson was among a several donors who flew to Israel for a day of sightseeing with Romney in addition to private meetings with top Israeli officials.

A group of donors also met with a top aide to President Benjamin Netanyahu, one donor said on the condition of anonymity to discuss private meetings.

Romney met with Netanyahu and other leaders before the speech. He also visited the Western Wall, Judaism's holiest site, where he was mobbed by worshippers.

In his remarks, Romney steered clear of overt criticism of Obama, even though he said the threat of a nuclear-armed Iran "has only become worse" in the past five years.

In an unspoken rebuttal to Obama and other critics, Romney said, "It is sometimes said that those who are the most committed to stopping the Iranian regime from securing nuclear weapons are reckless and provocative and inviting war.

"The opposite is true. We are the true peacemakers," he said.

Romney flew to the Middle East from Britain, where he caused a stir by questioning whether officials there were fully prepared for the Olympic Games. A stop in Poland will complete his trip.

Four years ago, Obama visited Israel as a presidential candidate, part of a five-nation trip meant to establish his own foreign policy credentials.

A goal of Romney's overseas trip is to demonstrate his confidence on the world stage, but his stop in Israel also was designed to appeal to evangelical voters at home and to cut into Obama's support among Jewish voters and donors. A Gallup survey of Jewish voters released Friday showed Obama with a 68-25 edge over Romney.

Romney and other Republicans have said Obama is insufficiently supportive of Israel.

In a March speech before a pro-Israel lobby in Washington, Obama warned of "loose talk of war" that serves only to drive up oil prices. "Now is the time to let our increased pressure sink in and sustain the broad international coalition we have built," he said at the time.

Lower summer energy costs and get a facelift for your home | Life ...

During summer, many of us look forward to fun-filled days at the pool or beach, but we definitely don?t look forward to exorbitantly high cooling bills during the heat of the season.

A typical single-family home shells out $ 2,200 in annual energy costs, according a recent study by the U.S. Department of Energy?s Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. And according to the Laboratory?s website, if a house has central air conditioning, even though the system is only used a few months out of the year, it is most likely the single biggest consumer of electricity, driving annual air conditioning costs that can exceed a shocking $ 1,000.

However, there are a number of ways you can improve the energy-efficient aspects of your home and save on electricity costs.

Seal the deal

According to U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), one of the most cost-effective ways to improve energy efficiency in homes is to seal and insulate windows and doors. Often, this means replacing old, leaky, sticky, poorly performing windows and doors. A typical home that replaces its single-paned, clear glass windows with energy-efficient windows can realize up to $ 494 in annual savings, according to the EPA.

?Windows are a wonderful source of natural light, but if they are old, they can act as giant heat lamps in the summer, allowing the sun?s heat into a home,? says David Harrison, chief marketing office of Champion Windows, one of the nation?s leading home improvement companies. ?By installing our Comfort 365 Replacement Windows, homeowners can help shrink their cooling bills. Champion?s Double hung replacement windows exceed ENERGY STAR rating requirements by an average of 42 percent for Solar Heat Gain, which is the measure of the sun?s heat that comes through your window. Champion windows also help keep the cool air in and still let in natural sunlight ? without the heat.?

For more energy saving window tips check out the U.S. Department of Energy?s website or Champion Window?s Energy Efficient Replacement Windows at www.championwindow.com.

On the side

Another great way to cut costs is to increase insulation by installing energy-efficient siding. Vinyl siding and energy-efficient underlayment can increase a home?s R-value, a measure of insulation?s ability to resist heat traveling through it. The higher the R-value, the better the thermal performance of the insulation. By increasing the R-value, homeowners can save more than 20 percent on their electricity bills, according to energysavers.gov.

?Installing an energy-efficient siding system, including ENERGY STAR rated insulation board, can help insulate your home against the heat, reduce the amount of air flow into your house, making it easier to keep cool air in during the summer,? says Harrison. ?At Champion, our customers have told us they were pleasantly surprised to see a decrease in their energy bills after their siding installation.?

Other ways to improve energy efficiency and lower summer electric bills include:

* Increasing insulation in attics

* Making sure you have proper roof ventilation

* Sealing air conditioner ducts

* Keeping your blinds closed when the sun is shining in

* Using a programmable thermostat

By making a few of these changes, you won?t cringe when you open those utility bills, and you might even be able to reap benefits beyond the summer.

?If homes are not properly insulated or sealed, cool air is leaking out and homeowners are throwing money out of the window,? says Harrison. ?By making a few energy-efficient changes to your home, you can help keep electric bills in check and even increase the value of your home.?

(AP) ? Panasonic Corp. said Tuesday it returned to the black in the April-June quarter, logging a net profit of 12.8 billion ($163 million) mainly on lower costs after cutting more than 38,000 jobs over the last year.

The consumer electronics giant had a net loss of 30.4 billion yen in the same quarter a year earlier.

The Osaka-based maker of Viera TVs and Lumix digital cameras said that it turned a profit despite a 6 percent decline in fiscal first quarter sales to 1.815 trillion yen amid weak demand in its Japanese home market.

The European financial crisis and the strong yen, which erodes overseas sales when repatriated to Japan, also weighed on the company's performance, it said in a release.

Panasonic kept its profit forecast for the full fiscal year through March 2013 unchanged at 50 billion yen ($638 million). Last fiscal year, it reported a record loss of 772.2 billion yen.

The company said it slashed its global workforce to about 327,500 as of the end of June from nearly 366,000 a year earlier.

Sales of its audio-visual products decreased 20 percent to 360 billion yen on poor demand for flat-panel TVs, but the division managed to swing to a profit of 7.4 billion yen after losing money a year earlier.

Profits in its home appliance segment ? the biggest of eight business divisions ? rose 7 percent on higher sales of refrigerators and washing machines.

Shares extend gains on stimulus hopes

TOKYO (Reuters) - Asian shares extended their gains on Monday, supported by expectations the Federal Reserve and the European Central Bank will deliver new measures to underpin their fragile economies, but the euro fell as caution kept a firm cap.

MSCI's broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan <.miapj0000pus> gained as much as 1.1 percent to a three-week high, after posting its biggest daily rise in a month on Friday with a 2.2 percent climb.

Korean shares <.ks11> touched their highest in four weeks while Australian shares <.axjo> rose to their highest in more than two months. Japan's Nikkei stock average was up 0.6 percent after hitting a one-week high. <.t/>

"At this point, this looks to be more of a relief rally and although expectations of central bank actions are there, investors aren't buying into it with a lot of conviction," said Kim Soo-young, an analyst at KB Investment & Securities, of the Korean equities market.

The turnaround in market sentiment from recent heavy selling was triggered last week when ECB President Mario Draghi pledged he would do whatever it takes to safeguard the single currency.

His comments raised hopes the ECB, which holds its policy meeting on Thursday, will act to ease borrowing strains for Spain and other highly indebted countries facing surging yields that threaten to derail fiscal restructuring efforts.

Investors grew slightly more cautious about their risk appetite, however, pushing the Australian dollar off the day's high at $1.0498 in early Asian trade. The dollar index <.dxy>, measured against a basket of major currencies, inched up 0.1 percent and crawling away from Friday's three-week low.

The euro fell 0.4 percent to $1.2285, well below a three-week high of $1.2390 touched on Friday. It slid to a two-year low around $1.2042 last week before Draghi's comments.

Uncertainty persisted in Europe about specific action, despite authorities speaking of the urgency to tackle Spain's fiscal woes, which drove its 10-year government debt yield to euro-era highs of 7.78 percent last week. Greece continued with its battle to convince creditors of its debt-cutting plans.

Jeff Sica, chief investment officer of Sica Wealth Management, was skeptical the optimism would be sustained.

"The problem being that central bankers do not have the ability to do 'whatever it takes' to save the euro. They only have the ability to undermine their credibility by making promises they cannot keep," he said, adding that the euro's recent strength has been based on short covering and its short term appreciation would be temporary.

Data on Friday showed that in the latest week, speculators cut their bets for the euro's further decline and reduced their long bets on the U.S. dollar to the lowest in 2-1/2 months. They also raised their longs on the Australian dollar and the yen.

HOPES FOR FED

The U.S. central bank also holds a policy meeting on Tuesday and Wednesday, with speculation rising the Fed might do more to bolster recovery, after data showed U.S. second-quarter gross domestic product expanded at a 1.5 percent annual rate, the weakest pace of growth since the third quarter of 2011.

"It (the GDP) contained enough weakness to support the Fed's commitment to an exceptionally long period of nearly zero overnight interest rates," said Richard Hastings, macro strategist at Global Hunter Securities.

"But the Fed's real catalyst comes from the most recent data in July, for Q3, which suggests a truly weaker story with greater risks of the U.S. drifting towards growth rates of 0.5 percent and nearly recessionary conditions in Q1 2013," he said.

U.S. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner will travel to Germany to meet with his German counterpart and ECB head Draghi on Monday.

On Greece, European policymakers are working on options that may include having the ECB and national central banks take huge losses on the value of their bond holdings, while Greek politicians have agreed on most of the austerity measures demanded by its creditors.

Asian credit markets firmed slightly, narrowing the spread on the iTraxx Asia ex-Japan investment-grade index by 3 basis points.

Oil was little changed, with Brent steady at $106.47 a barrel and U.S. crude easing 0.1 percent at $90.03.

Having this kind of surgery is traumatic no matter what kind of surgery it is. A lot of people underestimate the gastric bypass surgery groups but there are essentials to those patients who recovering from losing their weight. Finding gastric bypass support groups in your area can pose a challenge but you do have some options.

Gastric bypass is traditionally a laparoscopic or minimally invasive procedure. During the operation, which requires general anesthesia (being completely "put under"), a surgeon makes tiny incisions in the abdominal area and, working with a miniature scope, divides the stomach into two sections with two rows of stitch-like staples. Between the rows of staples, the surgeon makes incisions so scar tissue will grow over the staples to secure them in place. It is also called a stomach stapling or bar iatric (weight-loss) surgery. A surgery procedure involves dividing the stomach into a upper and bottom section using staples (similar to stitches) or banding. The upper section will become a small pouch that will be attached to the small intestine, bypassing the bottom section of the stomach

People having problem with this kind of surgery because they are not prepared for this kind of surgery. It has a radical changes that they need to come up after undergoing this kind of procedure. This surgery than only in extreme cases of lifestyle changes as well. Gastric bypass support groups are designed to help individuals adjust to those drastic changes.

Life it seems so overwhelming when a person suffering form obesity. This challenging and bravery decisions can make individual undergo surgery in order to lose weight. Literally, person?s who has gone this kind of surgery which is the gastric bypass surgery doing an effort to save their lives. That?s why joining gastric bypass support groups are very helpful and everyone is encouraged to join in this kind of procedure.

There?s another way where you can find the said group. One here is through Internet, where you can find gastric bypass support group which offers so many helpful resources than to attend in person.

And here?s a testimony about a friend of mine suffered obesity. He was constantly on a diet, he mostly using high protein approaches in losing weight such as Atkins diet pill to help him drop a few pounds, but instead of having losing some pounds about 40 or 50, he would start gaining back the weight faster than you could imagine. Not only this while he gains back what he lost, he added a few pounds each round.

You probably only have a short period to speech, so explaining a technical or complicated issue well is very difficult. A persuasive speech asks the audience members to change their attitudes or behaviors. Speak about something you know about. For the duration of your short speech, you are the teacher, and it?s your job to provide your students with some clear and useful information. Choose a topic that is of interest to the whole audience. The audience isn?t going to listen or learn much unless you convey to them that this is a topic worth learning about. You know that from being a student, right?

For example, don?t give a speech about "museums in the Europe. Avoid highly complex topics. Make sure your speech isn?t actually a persuasive speech. If you choose a topic that?s too broad, you?re not going to have enough time to talk about it in much detail. There are thousands of them, so this topic is way too broad. If you think this is a difficult task, you?re not alone. A speech about trendy woman?s hairstyles may be of interest to many of the females in your audience, but most of the males will not find this relevant at all. Be careful not to lose part of your audience. This is very important. Pick something that you already have some knowledge about. Don?t give a speech about freshman orientation or about popular student hangouts. So how do you choose an appropriate and interesting informative speech topic? Here are some tips. Otherwise, you?re going to have to do an awful lot of research to be able to speak with confidence about your topic. You also don?t want to choose a topic that?s too narrow, but this is a much less common problem. Choose an informative speech topic that?s not too broad. The first thing to remember when you?re writing an informative speech is this: you need to find something to teach the audience. So what are some criteria for selecting a good informative speech topic? Complex speeches tend to be filled with jargon, or technical words that most of your audience is not familiar with. Avoid topics that everyone already knows about. If the information in your speech is already known, your speech isn?t going to inform them of anything new. This is very important, and your public speaking instructor may downgrade you if you fail to do this. Narrow it down to something like "art museums in Amsterdam," and you have a manageable topic. Speak about something you care about. Learning how to pick the right topic is an important part of developing strong public speaking skills. An informative speech teaches the audience about something.

Be careful not to cross the line. Enthusiastic teachers are good teachers. If you speak about something that is relevant to your audience, they are much more likely to pay attention and learn something. For many college students and high school students, choosing good speech topics is one of the most challenging parts of their public speaking class. Speak about something the audience will care about.

Now you can understand why there?s a growing interest in informative speech topics. When people start looking for more information about informative speech topics, you?ll be in a position to meet their needs.

You'll never guess the age of this Olympian

LONDON ? The oldest competitor at the 2012 Olympic Games has revealed the extraordinary sacrifices he has made in order to remain a medal contender well past retirement age.

Hiroshi Hoketsu, who will represent Japan in the equestrian discipline of dressage at the age of 71, told Yahoo! Sports how chasing a slice of history and becoming the oldest Olympian in the last 92 years is the result of a fanatical commitment to the sport.

"I have not seen my wife, Motoko, for more than a year," said Hoketsu, who lives and trains in the German town of Aachen in order to team up with his horse, Whisper, and his Dutch coach. "It is difficult to be away from home for this long as an old man and I owe everything to her patience and understanding."

Hoketsu will take part in his third Olympics, 48 years after making his debut and finishing 40th as a show jumper on home soil at the 1964 Tokyo Games. Despite continuing to rise at 5 a.m. every day to ride horses, he quit competing and became a successful international businessman for pharmaceutical companies.

After hanging up his business suit and briefcase, Hoketsu still had the itch to compete and entered the world of competitive dressage at his wife's insistence. At the time, neither predicted his comeback would result in qualification for the Beijing Games four years ago and now the London Games.

Hoketsu credits his performances to dedication and a bond with his mount that he describes as "magical." He has become a star in his homeland and a poster boy for the elderly.

?[ Photos: London 2012 Opening Ceremony ]

Although Hoketsu rises early every morning and attacks practice sessions with as much zeal as riders young enough to be his grandchildren, he confesses he does not adhere to the dietary regimen you might expect from an Olympic athlete.

"I eat what I want to eat and drink as much as I want to drink," said Hoketsu through an interpreter. "People might expect that I am able to participate for so long because I have special habits. But my secret is to have a good life, enjoy yourself and do the things that make you happy.

"Having said that, I am out there riding horses every day for several hours. Then I come back in and do many exercises, to help with my strength, coordination, and, most importantly, my balance."

Hoketsu is the oldest Olympian since Swedish shooter Oscar Swahn won bronze at the age of 72 at the 1920 Antwerp Games and would ride into the record books if he was able to qualify for the Rio de Janeiro Games in 2016.

Such an outcome is unlikely, but don't rule it out just yet.

"My wife would like for this to be my last year of competition and that will probably be the case," Hoketsu said. "But I still feel my riding is improving, little by little. That is my motivation. I am a better rider at 70 than I was at 40. Most people can't tell but my body is getting a little weaker. My horse knows it and she helps me."

Interview: Adam Sewall & Greg Franzese from Ooyala's VideoMind ...

Ooyala offers a multi-platform video solution and for some of world?s biggest media companies and brands. From the collective brainpower of engineers, product developers, data scientists, and marketers, Ooyala?s VideoMind blog provides unique and useful insights into the world of online video and personalized digital media.

VideoMind stands out in the world of corporate blogs with its distinctive blend of humor and entertainment with in-depth analysis of data and trends. A few weeks ago, the VideoMind masterminds, Adam Sewall and Greg Franzese told Magnet Media about the future of online videos, Social TV, hockey, and their original series, ?The Adam and Greg Show.?

Can you tell us in a nutshell exactly what VideoMind is?

Adam Sewall: At a basic level, VideoMind is Ooyala?s blog. If you?re interested in what?s going on in the world of connected TV, streaming media and online video, we want VideoMind to be the place for you to get your news, insights, commentary, and data. We help professionals working in tech and traditional media keep up with the rapidly evolving media landscape.

Greg Franzese: VideoMind sits at the intersection of technology and entertainment, so it really is a great space to work in and write about. VideoMind touches everything from second screens and social TV to SmartTVs and OTT video. We also feature guest posts and video interviews with some of the smartest people working on the front lines of Internet television. We?ve had Roku?sVPofBusinessDevelopment on the blog, as well as Boxee?sVPofMarketing.

How did VideoMind get started and how have you found it has impacted Ooyala?s positioning in the industry and engaged its audience?

Greg: Adam gets all the credit for launching VideoMind and building an amazing blogging team.

Adam: That?s true. All glory to Adam. But seriously, we wanted to build a thought leadership blog that would educate and entertain people at the same time.

We see that philosophy especially on, ?The Adam & Greg Show,? which mixes valuable content with irreverent fun. It?s great to see a ?corporate blog? strategy that doesn?t take things to seriously and isn?t fraid to shake things up. How did the show start and how?s the response been to it?

Adam: We wanted to make tech videos that were informative but also approachable and entertaining. So the show kind of grew out of that mindset.

Greg: We?re like the original odd couple, if you discount the actual, original OddCouple.

Adam: Lots of companies would be too uptight to let us do some of the crazy things we do. But the culture at Ooyala is really a ?no BS? culture. Work hard, have fun, execute. And that?s what we try to do with VideoMind and the Adam & Greg show.

So what are some of the most exciting trends that you guys see in the online video space? Where do you see it all heading?

Greg: More than half of the total time spent watching video online was spent watching long form videos last quarter, according to Ooyala?s GlobalVideoIndexReport. One of the more interesting trends we?re seeing is that video game systems aren?t just for playing games anymore. Instead, people are streaming Netflix and Hulu to their big screen TVs, and watching premium content streamed over the Internet. Not just geeks and early adopters ? regular people are regularly watching TV online now.

Adam: I think the proliferation of content and connected screens has really altered the way that people watch TV now. People expect instant access to their favorite movies, sports and TV shows, anytime, anywhere. As more people get smartphones and tablets, and more premium content moves online, the traditional broadcast paradigm will continue to shift online.

Greg: The really exciting thing ? and this is what Ooyala is working on right now ? is the notion of personalized media. Delivering the right content to the right screen at the right time. Instead of having 700 channels, there will be 1 billion channels: one for every connected viewer on the planet. And your personalized channel will know who you are, what you like to watch, and what you should watch next.

What about Social TV?

Adam: Social TV is a big trend, and will continue to impact the way people watch and discuss shows in the coming years. Twitter has been called the ?digital water cooler? because that is where like-minded people discuss the latest episode of their favorite show.

Greg: The ability to leverage a viewer?s likes, Tweets and interest graph means that video publishers can better target their content to the most relevant viewers. It also means that viewers get served more videos that match their taste.

If I like watching hockey highlights (Adam and I are both big hockey fans) then new data-driven content recommendation engines will learn about what I like and send me videos that I will enjoy watching.

Adam: Social metrics also help video publishers like Magnet Media measure the effectiveness of their work. Gaining insights into the virality of a video, or noticing how many tablet owners watch your work all the way to the end are valuable metrics that are not possible with traditional TV ratings.

I?m also a big hockey fan. I like the San Jose Sharks, but I know our office has some heavy Rangers fans. Anyway, speaking of metrics?what are some of the benefits of online video analytics?

Greg: TV ratings are like a buzzsaw and online video analytics are a scalpel. They both cut, but one is much more precise.

Adam: When you understand who is watching your content ? what devices they are using, what locations they are in ? you can make more informed decisions that ultimately impact your business.

Greg: For example, most tablet video occurs in the morning, before work, and in the evening, before bed. If a brand wanted to launch a tablet video app, for instance, that kind of insight is amazingly useful.

Adam: Detailed viewer engagement metrics also let video publishers better monetize their online media. With so many devices delivering so much information, maximizing digital video ROI isn?t a guessing game anymore. Analytics help video publishers earn the most money from online video.

What?s next for Ooyala and VideoMind? Any projects you?re excited about and can share with us?

Adam: Ooyala is busy ramping up for the PAC-12 Networks launch this fall ? a new network that will leverage both broadcast and broadband technology from day one. So we are all pretty excited about that.

Greg: We are also working on the next Online Video Index Report, so expect to see some new numbers and industry trends soon.

What do you think about the Adam and Greg show? What do you think about the future of video? Let us know in the comments and connect with us on Twitter, Facebook, Google+, and LinkedIn.

Hyundai recalls some Santa Fe, Sonata for air bags

(AP) ? Hyundai Motor Co. is recalling some Santa Fe SUVs and Sonata sedans because of problems with their air bags.

The Santa Fe recall involves nearly 200,000 vehicles in the 2007 to 2009 model years. Hyundai dealers will reprogram the front passenger air bag sensors so they will accurately detect when a small adult is seated.

Hyundai said it has received complaints from some adults under 130 pounds whose air bags didn't deploy. The air bags were originally programmed not to go off to protect children.

The company is also recalling 22,500 Sonata sedans from the 2012 and 2013 model years because their side air bags could go off without warning.

Hyundai says it has received 16 complaints about the Sonata's air bags, but no injuries have been reported.

Colorado movie house massacre suspect was under psychiatrist's care

DENVER (Reuters) - A former University of Colorado graduate student accused of killing 12 people and wounding 58 others in a shooting rampage at a Denver-area movie theater last week had been under the care of a psychiatrist who was part of a campus threat-assessment team.

The disclosure came in court documents filed on Friday by lawyers for James Holmes, 24, who is accused of opening fire last Friday on a packed showing of the latest Batman movie, "The Dark Knight Rises," in the Denver suburb of Aurora.

The defense attorneys, in their request to an Arapahoe County district judge, are seeking a court order requiring prosecutors to turn over the contents of a package that Holmes sent to Dr. Lynne Fenton and was later seized by investigators.

"Mr. Holmes was a psychiatric patient of Dr. Fenton, and his communications with her are protected," the filing said.

Fenton, medical director for student mental health services at the University of Colorado-Denver Anschutz Medical Campus, provides medication and psychotherapy for graduate students in addition to her teaching responsibilities, according to a school website.

A professional biography of Fenton posted on the site said she had conducted research on schizophrenia, including a two-year grant to work in the schizophrenia research department of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs from 2008 to 2010.

Fenton is also a member of the campus-based "behavioral assessment and threat assessment team," which helps faculty and staff deal with "individuals who may be threatening, disruptive or otherwise problematic," according to that group's website.

It could not be ascertained if Fenton was caring for Holmes under the threat-assessment program or under routine counseling she provided to students on campus.

Fenton could not immediately be reached by Reuters for comment, and a spokeswoman for the University of Colorado medical school declined comment, citing restrictions under a gag order issued by the judge presiding over the case.

The university, where Holmes had been enrolled as a doctoral student of neuroscience, confirmed earlier this week that a suspicious package was delivered by mail on Monday and that it was "immediately investigated and handed over to authorities within hours."

DEFENSE LAWYERS SEEK SANCTIONS FOR MEDIA 'LEAKS'

Fox News has reported, citing an unnamed law enforcement source close to the investigation, that two packages were sent by Holmes to a psychiatrist on the faculty of the University of Colorado, and that one contained a notebook detailing the shooting scenario. According to Fox News, the notebook contained hand-drawn illustrations of stick figures shooting at other stick figures.

The defense motion accuses of the government of leaking information to the media in defiance of a gag order, thereby jeopardizing Holmes' rights to due process and fair trial by an impartial jury. It says his lawyers will request a hearing to determine "appropriate sanctions for this misconduct."

Prosecutors, responding to the discovery motion, disputed various elements of media accounts as being erroneous, suggesting that anyone who had provided information to Fox News and other outlets lacked real knowledge of the case.

"These factual errors lead (the government) to believe ... that the media is getting information from hoaxers, fraudsters, or maybe from nobody at all by creating fake 'law enforcement sources' out of whole cloth," prosecutors said in their filing.

Formal charges against the suspect, who dyed his hair bright orange and was said by authorities to have referred to himself as the Joker - Batman's comic book arch enemy - are expected to be filed in court on Monday.

The judge in the case, William Sylvester, set a hearing on the defense discovery motion to be held as part of Monday's proceedings.

Arrested within minutes of the shooting rampage at his car in the theater's parking lot, Holmes is being held in solitary confinement in the local jail.

In addition to charges stemming from one of the worst outbursts of U.S. gun violence in recent years, he is accused of wiring his apartment with enough explosives to have leveled the entire building if they had been detonated.

The apartment house was evacuated when the booby traps were discovered. But the explosives were later safely dismantled and removed by authorities, and Holmes' neighbors began returning to their homes on Wednesday night.

The latest disclosures about the suspect came to light as mourners attended the third funeral in as many days for one of the victims of the shooting rampage, this one for an 18-year-old high school graduate, Alexander J. "AJ" Boik," who was bound for art college in the fall.

Aurora's Queen of Peace Catholic Church was filled with hundreds of mourners, including Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper, Aurora Mayor Steve Hogan and a contingent of Aurora police officers and firefighters.

Boik was one of the youngest among 12 people, aged 6 to 51, killed in the hail of gunfire early last Friday, just after midnight. Of the 58 wounded, 12 remain hospitalized, including five in critical condition.

The Curious Case of Social Networking in Online Marketing ...

?Social media is no longer a trick. This is the way, most of the people want for their information and want to hear from marketers.? ? Nick SchaperOne status update on myspace caused one of the most important revolution of our times. At the least, that?s what the social press pundits are proclaiming.Things which could have taken years to surface (in the pre internet days) took less than 10 days to highlight the substantial mass unrest through social networking sites. Additionally, it only didn?t stay, from people to people, it even made sort-of-a corporate venture for a social cause. Google and Twitter tangled up to help people tweet the ground truth by leaving messages on Google voice mail, in the process of complete media split down.Internet entrepreneurs are trying to analyze the influence of this occasion and the broader part, that social media sites can play in the times to come. One of the key finding that has come out of the is ? social networking sites functions as a catalyst. Any unfolding function or a phenomena requires a social media marketing and well deserving press could use it in the spotlight immediately. Why? All the respectable and popular press throughout the world, follow facebook, facebook etc. as the beat of the masses. Views and opinions expressed/shared in high amounts don?t get overlooked, they develop into an excellent time account or even a newspaper?s first page report.Second observation is, it is the youth ? who drives the information. Excited users of social media sites from the age group of 15-35 are certainly one of most desired target segment for the advertisers, specifically the women. Their voices do not go unnoticed or unheard.Third and the time tested finish is ? the headlines would be always led by high quality, genuine cause/ information. Social media marketing sites allow users to involve like-minded people in a movement/campaign at a really inexpensive. All in all, the idea helps you promote an idea at a fraction of a price with a top probability of a mainstream press mention which could further increase a brandname recall. These lessons are very appropriate specially for the b2b sites. Most of them continue to be striving to influence the whole benefits of the social media marketing sites and in turn not able to help their clients which results in high dissatisfaction and a poor PR. In the light of above results B2B websites could revise their marketing methods, develop far better marketing programs and perform them powerfully to benefit their end customers.

Get On The Road To Repairing Your Credit Today | Creative ...

It may seem difficult to find the information you need to repair your credit while you are in the middle of your problem. We have several suggestions to help you fix your credit score. These tips can relieve you from stress and save time.

If you are unable to make minimum payments, contact the better business bureau for information on a trustworthy credit counseling service. Agents at these organizations can negotiate with creditors to set up payment plans for your debt, and they will teach you how to dig out and stay out of debt over time. Consumer credit counseling services can provide you with effective ways to better manage your money and pay off debt.

TIP! Make sure you thoroughly research into any credit repair agency or counselor before you do business with them. Many counselors are honest and helpful, but others may be less interested in actually helping you.

If your credit is poor, take the first step to repairing it by closing out the majority of your cards, leaving yourself just one to use. Then, try to arrange payments or transfer your balances to the one account you left open. Paying off one main credit card will be easier than paying off several cheaper ones.

Keeping a tight rein on the balances you carry on your credit cards is a good way to improve and safeguard your credit. If you currently have a $4000 limit on a card, you never want to have a balance of more than $3800. Even if have been consistent in making on time monthly payments, the more you owe on your card, the more damage you are doing to your credit score.

TIP! The best way to repair your credit is to pay your debts and pay bills on time when they are due. Credit counseling services could help.

Improve your credit score, as well as make some profit, through an installment account. All installment accounts must stay above the set monthly minimum, so only open one if you can afford it. If these accounts are properly managed, they can provide a quick boost to your credit score.

For some it may hard to finance their home due to having less than ideal credit. FHA loans are good options in these circumstances, because the federal government guarantees them. Even when the resources for making down payments or paying closing costs are lacking, FHA loans can help.

In order to fix your credit score, you must have a plan that will help you lower your debt and actually make an impact. Having a lot of debt has a negative impact on your credit score. In any case, there is no reason to pay for interest if it is not absolutely necessary. Create a budget that you can live with and devote as much of the rest to paying off debts, starting with the ones with the highest interest rate first. The less debt you have, the better your credit score will be.

TIP! A terrible credit situation would be having many different debts you can?t afford to pay back. Take the money you have for bills, and allocate a small amount to several creditors so you can make a little progress with each.

Do not spend beyond your means any longer. You will need to change the way you think. A lot of people rely on credit to maintain an unrealistic lifestyle, but when the credit runs out, all that?s left is a very big bill. Spend some significant time studying your finances, and set a realistic budget to which you can stick.

Hopefully you have found this information to be informative. While fixing your credit might seem like an uphill battle, once you follow this advice, you will have the chance to regain your credit. Make sure you are patient. If you keep at it, the rewards are well worth it

by Chris Curley on July 26, 2012

Mindfulness meditation may help older people deal with their loneliness, a new study led by researchers at Carnegie Mellon University says.

After eight weeks of mindfulness meditation training to reduce stress (two-hour meetings once per week, plus 30 minute of daily personal meditation sessions), adults ages 55 to 85 experienced significant reductions in emotional stress and markers for inflammation in the bloodstream. Inflammation is a risk factor for cancer, heart disease, and cognitive diseases, the researchers note.

?We know that loneliness is a major risk factor for health problems and mortality in older adults,? says lead author J. David Creswell, Ph.D. Mindfulness meditation training represents ?a promising intervention for improving the health of older adults,? he says.

?If you?re interested in using mindfulness meditation, find an instructor in your city,? he suggests. ?It?s important to train your mind like you train your biceps in the gym.?

Bright-light therapy and Tai Chi practice have also demonstrated some success with treating depression in old age, earlier studies show.

The study appears online in the journal Brain, Behavior, and Immunity.
