He's conquered the charts, the Internet and arenas all around the world, so it just makes sense that Justin Bieber is bringing his swag to prime time. The "Boyfriend" singer will star in his first network special on June 21 when NBC airs "Justin Bieber Believe: All Around the World."

The hour-long show will give Beliebers a behind-the-scenes look at Justin's global promotional tour in support of his upcoming Believe album, using a combination of documentary and music performance footage. "We're thrilled to air Justin Bieber's first network special," said Doug Vaughan, SVP of Special Programs and Late Night for NBC in a statement announcing the show, which will air from 8-9 p.m. ET/PT. "We'll have unprecedented access to Justin as our cameras film not only his performances, but his every move on this global tour --- giving our viewers an all access pass to his life over a 12-day period, something rarely seen on TV today."

Viewers will get a unique perspective on Bieber's grinding schedule on the seven-country, 12-day promo tour thanks to the "Justin-cam," which will show fans the madness from his perspective. The whirlwind tour will culminate with a special concert performance in New York City. Bieber dropped a new single this week, "Die in Your Arms,"
 which laces his pop attack with bits of Motown harmonies and producer Rodney "Darkchild" Jerkins' signature funky beats.

The song's vintage swing, finger snaps and melodies certainly recall the heyday of feel-good R&B from the 1960s, which is mirrored in the song's sentiment. On the chorus, Bieber sings, "Honestly, the truth is, if I could just die in your arms/ I wouldn't mind/ 'Cause every time you touch me/ I just die in your arms/ It feels so right/ So baby, baby, baby, please don't stop girl."

"Die" is the follow-up to the more pop-'n'-b-leaning "Boyfriend,"
 which he dropped back in March. Last week he released a remix to the song, featuring 2 Chainz, Mac Miller and Asher Roth, which certainly ups the song's hip-hop ante quite a bit. Health Canada slow to move against alcoholic energy drinks

OTTAWA ? Health Canada isn't ready to crack down on pre-mixed alcoholic energy drinks, despite a long-standing request from government inspectors for direction on what "action can be taken against these products," internal records show.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency pressed Health Canada for a decision last year, after fielding a complaint from the Association of Canadian Distillers last May about alcoholic beverages that market themselves as providing an energy boost. The association said in addition to being deceptive and misleading, that given Health Canada's classification of alcohol as a depressant, "these marketing practices also have serious potential negative health consequences."

Minutes of a July 2011 meeting of food inspectors at which the complaint was discussed, released to Postmedia News under access to information, said "CFIA needs clarification on stronger regulatory basis on which action can be taken against these products," saying there are labelling and composition "concerns because the product is being represented as an energy drink."

Alcohol is a central nervous system depressant and caffeine is a stimulant that can make people think they are less intoxicated than they are. Health Canada warns this can lead to prolonged drinking sessions and higher alcohol consumption, increasing health and safety risks.

In 2010, Health Canada issued a letter to liquor control boards across the country, clarifying that pre-mixed alcoholic energy drinks were permitted under current regulations ? so long as the stimulant is derived from an ingredient that naturally contains caffeine.

Regular energy drinks contain synthetic caffeine in addition to caffeine derived from guarana, with total levels of caffeine ranging from 80 mg to 200 mg in each can. The caffeine in alcoholic beverages such as Rockstar + Vodka, MOJO, Octane 7.0 and Poppers Rush 7%, is derived from guarana, and the products are represented as providing an energy boost or being a source of energy.

In an interview, C.J. Helie, executive vice-president of the Association of Canadian Distillers, said his organization believes this contravenes a key section of Canada's labelling rules because any representation that an alcoholic drink is a stimulant, boosts energy, or has stimulative properties is incompatible with alcohol's core characteristic as a depressant.

Helie said the health issue is as pressing as the commercial aspect of the dispute.

"How do you convince consumers that it's a risky behaviour if they think it's being sold legally in every corner store in Quebec? That's the crux of the issue."

For example, Blue Spike Beverages, based in Montreal, says its MOJO "alternative alcoholic beverage," available in Quebec convenience stores and some liquor board stores outside Quebec, was developed because young people started "mixing spirits and energy drinks. This is how the new market segment of alcoholic energy drinks was born."

Meanwhile, Blue Spike's calls its "Octane 7.0 alcohol + energy drink" a "revolutionary product which combines 7% alcohol with 80 mg of caffeine and is designed for consumers who want an alcoholic drink with all the kick an energy drinks packs!"

Helie said Health Canada has to find a way to respond more quickly, even when facing a complex regulatory issue.

"I think some companies recognize that the brand cycle is now faster than the regulatory response cycle. They take a bet they can bring something in which either skirts the edges or even goes way over the edges and they can get in, make some money and get out before the regulator has an opportunity to respond," said Helie, adding he's "obviously frustrated" it's taking so long to resolve.

Economists cut India's growth forecasts

Within days of Morgan Stanley and StanChart revising downwards the country's growth forecasts for the current fiscal, Goldman Sachs and Bank of America-Merrill Lynch on Friday steeply scaled down their gross domestic product estimates for India [ Images ] to 6.6 and 6.5 per cent respectively for 2012-13.

These two revisions are the lowest forecasts yet, as the projection of Morgan Stanley is 6.8 per cent while that of StanChart is at 7.1 per cent, and are drastically lower than the government forecast of 7.6 per cent.

"We are revising our GDP growth forecast for FY13 down to 6.6 per cent from 7.2 per cent, largely due to a weaker investment outlook in part driven by domestic policy uncertainties and more back-ended and lesser monetary policy easing, and in part by prevailing global uncertainties," Goldman Sachs India economist Tushar Poddar said in a note.

Meanwhile, Bank of America-Merrill Lynch India economist Indranil Sen Gupta, pegging the March quarter GDP at 6 per cent, said FY13 growth will be just 6.5 per cent if Greece stays in the euro, and will be sharply lower at 5.5 per cent if Athens decides to dump the European monetary union.

"We cut our FY13 growth forecast by 30 bps to 6.5 per cent from our previous forecast, with the European crisis dragging on more than anticipated.

In case of a Greece exit, growth can fall to 5.5 per cent.

Meanwhile, March quarter growth would also come in at an anaemic 6 per cent, pulling our FY12 growth forecast down by 20 bps to 6.7 per cent for FY12," Sen Gupta said.

On May 21, Morgan Stanley cut India's growth forecast to 6.8 per cent from 7.5 per cent.

"With policy makers continuing to delay action to address the unsustainable bad mix of growth, we now think that GDP growth is likely to face another leg down. A deeper and longer growth slowdown is up ahead.

Accordingly, we expect GDP to decelerate to near crisis level at 6.8 per cent this fiscal," Morgan Stanley managing director Chetan Ahya said.

Goldman's Ahya also said that the core WPI inflation will head above 8 per cent by the fiscal end.

On Wednesday, Standard Chartered Bank too revised downwards the GDP growth forecast to 7.1 per cent from earlier estimate of 7.4 per cent and inflation forecast revised to 7.2 per cent from 6.5 per cent projected earlier.

"We revise down our growth forecast to 7.1 per cent for FY13 on relatively restrictive monetary policy and inflation at 7.2 per cent," the British lender had said in a research note.

Goldman on Friday also revised upwards its inflation forecast for the fiscal saying, "we are also revising up our FY13 core inflation forecast to 6.5 per cent from 5 per cent due to significantly higher food prices and an increase in domestically administered fuel prices."

Accordingly, Poddar of Goldman said he is also reducing his rate cut forecast to 50 bps by 4Q, from 75 bps earlier, due to higher inflation in the near-term.

"Our rate cuts forecast is now more back-loaded than earlier.

"We, however, continue to think weaker core inflation, and sustained weakness in industrial activity will give the Reserve Bank space to cut rates in 4Q," Poddar said.

On interest rate cuts by RBI, Goldman is expecting lesser and more back-ended monetary policy easing.

Therefore, we now expect a much shallower recovery in investment demand, and are shaving off 40 bps of contribution from investment to GDP growth.

On the rupee, Poddar said, "while we recognise clear near-term risks to the rupee/dollar forecasts, we think the current sell-off is overdone. We have taken a more sanguine view in the medium-term.

"Based on the central bank's preference to intervene to stabilise the rupee, and the balance of payment being funded on a full-year basis, we are keeping our 3, 6, and 12-month forecasts unchanged at 53, 50.7 and 50, for the rupee respectively."

Citing the reasons for lower forecast, BofA-ML's Sen Gupta said though several lead indicators such as business confidence, OECD lead indicator, and earnings have improved to neutral from negative, a growth turnaround is likely only after lending rates come off say by 50 bps to reverse the slowdown in loan demand.

On the rupee, Sen Gupta said the local unit could temporarily hit 60 to a dollar as it expects that the dollar will strengthen to 1.20 to a euro on safe haven effects.

At the same time, he said, "the silver lining is that oil may fall to $60 a barrel from base case $119 if Greece exits.

"This would open the door for 2008-type aggressive RBI rate cuts to support growth by substantially easing pressures on inflation and the twin deficits".

Stating that a $10 per barrel drop can swing the trade deficit by 0.4 per cent of GDP and the fiscal deficit by 0.2 per cent of GDP, he said, "It is for this reason we would still expect India to stage the fastest recovery after China, a la 2008, in the event of Greece exit".

Swarms of robotic drones outfitted with solid-state lasers may be tomorrow?s environmentally-friendly weed killers, according to a team of German researchers.

While this this may sound at odds with the idyll of an organic farmer toiling away in the fields, the research team says the lasers eliminate the need for toxic herbicides and labor-intensive weed control.

The drones would seek out and destroy weeds by frying their growth centers with a finely-tuned laser beam, according to scientists working on the project at Leibniz University and Laser Zentrum Hanover.

Sensors and sophisticated algorithms on board the drones would allow the robots to distinguish between weed and crop and determine the right strength of the beam required to kill the weed.

To date, the team has demonstrated the technology in the lab and greenhouse where the laser is mounted on a track over the weeds.

The next step is to deploy the technology in the field. This is tricky since the vibrations of tractor-mounted system would interfere with accuracy, leading to fried crops as well as weeds.

Hence, the idea of mounting the lasers on drones, which the team apparently thinks might be steadier.

CAPE CANAVERAL, Florida (Reuters) - Astronauts aboard the International Space Station captured Space Exploration Technologies' Dragon cargo ship on Friday, the first privately owned vehicle to reach the orbital outpost.

Using the station's 58-foot long (17.7-meter) robotic crane, NASA astronaut Don Pettit snared Dragon at 9:56 a.m. EDT (1356 GMT) as the two spacecraft zoomed 250 miles over northwest Australia at 17,500 miles per hour.

"It looks like we've got us a dragon by the tail," Pettit radioed to NASA Mission Control in Houston.

The capsule, built and operated by Space Exploration Technologies, or SpaceX, is the first of two new commercial freighters NASA will use to fly cargo to the $100 billion outpost following the retirement of the space shuttles last year.

The United States plans to buy commercial flight services for its astronauts as well, breaking Russia's monopoly on flying crews to the station.

Dragon blasted off aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station on Tuesday. It is expected to be attached to a docking port on the station later on Friday.

After a successful pass by the station on Thursday to test its navigation and communications systems, Dragon proceeded at a snail's pace on Friday, stopping, starting and occasionally retreating to make sure it could be controlled.

At one point, the SpaceX ground operations team in Hawthorne, California, halted Dragon to adjust the capsule's laser imaging system, which it uses to see the station. Sensors were picking up stray reflections from the station's Japanese module, said NASA mission commentator Josh Byerly.

Dragon ended up using just one of its two laser imaging systems for the final approach to the station, a bit dicey because a failure would have triggered an automatic abort.

But one eye was all Dragon needed to position itself 30 feet beneath the station and within arm's reach of the robotic crane that would haul it up for berthing.

"?Congratulations on a wonderful capture," astronaut Megan Behnken radioed to the station crew from Mission Control. "?You've made a lot of folks happy down here, over in Hawthorne and right here in Houston. Great job, guys."

SpaceX founder and chief designer Elon Musk said he got a congratulatory call from President Barack Obama after Dragon reached orbit on its second and most likely final test flight.

?"Caller ID was blocked, so at first I thought it was a telemarketer," Musk wrote in a Twitter message.

DRAGON DELIVERS

The Dragon capsule is carrying about 1,200 pounds (544 kg) of food, water, clothing and supplies for the station crew. It will be repacked with more than 1,300 pounds (590 kg) of equipment to come back to Earth and depart the station on May 31.

It would splash down in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of southern California later that day.

Dragon's successful test flight will clear SpaceX to begin working off its 12-flight, $1.6 billion contract with NASA to fly cargo to and from the station.

A second freighter being developed by Orbital Sciences Corp is expected to debut later this year. Orbital holds a second NASA cargo delivery contract worth $1.9 billion.

The Obama administration is pushing Congress to embrace similar partnership arrangement for commercial space taxis to fly astronauts as well.

Legislators last year halved Obama's request for space taxi design work to $406 million. Proposed spending plans for the year beginning October 1 would cut the White House's $830 million request to no more than $525 million.
