Frame Mats for Art Paintings - A Brief Guide | News Daily

When enjoying art, frame mats are usually mostly unnoticed. They?re usually cream coloured, so what is so unique about them, you may well ask.

Typical with frames, they are designed to improve the art aesthetically. It offers an area of neutral room between the artwork and frame, assisting to separate the artwork from the surroundings.

What exactly is floating?

Floating is definitely the complete opposite of placing a mat. Images can be placed floating in a frame so that edges of fine art are noticeable. Save of matting costs when the painter has drawn completely to the borders of the paper or if there?s some art elements along the edges to be displayed.

How to select the right mat color?

I find this a lot easier than picking frames. Perhaps I?m more conservative, picking mostly cream colored mats. Needless to say I would not advise you to be the same. I am informed that you can also be creative with matting.

Here?s 3 simple recommendations:

1. Mat color must be different from the frame. Or else it?ll appear as if the art work is surrounded by an extra-large frame. Not good.

2. Go with a color that is lighter than the artwork but darker when compared to the wall. When you have a dark-colored wall, similar to black, select a lighter colored matt.

3. If you?re placing a number of framed art work on a single wall, go for similar colored mats. It synchronizes the design. Also you can pick a more creative feel of alternating the colours ? ensure that it does not conflict.
