Microsoft has announced that the Xbox One will only be available in 21 countries ? and South Africa isn?t one of them.

On launch the Xbox One? will only be supported in the following countries:

  • Australia
  • Austria
  • Belgium
  • Brazil
  • Canada
  • Denmark
  • Finland
  • France
  • Germany
  • Ireland
  • Italy
  • Mexico
  • Netherlands
  • New Zealand???????
  • Norway
  • Russia
  • Spain
  • Sweden
  • Switzerland
  • United Kingdom
  • United States

The Xbox One will require an Internet connection in order to 'phone home' once every 24 hours, so it is not entirely clear whether it would be possible to use it countries other than those listed.

In an interview with Game Industries international, when asked about whether it would be possible to import the system to a country which is not supported, Microsoft said that users? "would want to wait until the console is available in their region."

While more countries will be added to the list in 2014, the current list of supported nations also excludes Poland, where the Witcher 3 is being developed for the system, as well as keen gaming countries in Asia like Japan and Singapore.
