WNDU loses family member

It is with great sadness that we here at WNDU say goodbye to Jeannie Hayes.

You never saw Jeannie on the news here because she interned with us during college. She was an impassioned young journalist who always gave 100 percent. She went on to anchor, report and produce the news in Rockford, Illinois and stayed in touch with us when she returned to town to visit her family.

Jeannie became ill and found out Tuesday she had leukemia. Her health rapidly deteriorated and she lost her battle overnight Thursday.

Jeannie graduated from Penn High School and Marquette University.

Her parents, Phil and Claire live in Granger. Jeannie is also survived by two sisters and a niece she adored.

We mourn for the Hayes family and the loss of such a beautiful, bright young woman and journalist. If she had a down day, she never showed it. Jeannie always had a smile.
