North Korea says it's open to talks with South

PYONGYANG, North Korea (AP) ? North Korea says it is open to holding talks with South Korea on reopening their jointly run factory park in the first public response to Seoul's proposal last month to discuss the shuttered Kaesong complex.

The Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of Korea in Pyongyang announced the regime's willingness to hold talks in a statement carried Thursday by state media.

South Korean officials did not immediately comment. Seoul had called on Pyongyang last month to agree to government-level talks to discuss the fate of Kaesong, the joint factory park that has been closed due to tensions between the two governments.

The North's statement also included a proposal to discuss the resuming cross-border tours suspended since 2008, and restarting the reunions of families divided since the Korean War.
